- DFH Diploma in Family Health
Family Health specialists are in immediate need for the vast community in our country.
SRMC initiated its distance education programme, PG Diploma in Family Health for
general practitioners of this country. This is a well structured 2 year programme including
contact sessions, web based learning and assessment. There has been excellent response
to this course from general practitioners all over the country, within a short period of time
since its inception. The doctors enrolled into this course have been greatly benefited, as
it has enabled them to change their practice styles and has helped them to be able to
address the health care needs of the entire family in the ambience of the community.
The Department of Environmental Health Engineering was set up, as a part of the Basic Science Research Wing of Sri Ramachandra University, Chennai, in 1998 with the aid
of financial assistance provided by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. The department originally set up to provide occupational safety and industrial hygiene
monitoring services to the leather/tanning industry in Tamil Nadu, has since then been expanded to include a variety of R & D and training activities, that cover a broad spectrum
of environmental health concerns. It is a recipient of extra-mural research and training grants from NIH, WHO, World Bank, UNDP, USEPA, Central and State Ministries of Govt. of India.
The primary focus of the department is on conduct of health risk assessments for environmental pollutants (in both the occupational and ambient environment). The department
also provides routine occupational safety and health consultancy services to a wide spectrum of industries. The department is equipped with a state of the art environmental
monitoring and industrial hygiene laboratory. The faculty of the department is involved in the conduct of academic courses including

- Postgraduate Certificate Course in Industrial Health
The WHO has designated Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute as a WHO Collaborating Centre for Research and Training in Occupational Health with Dr.Kalpana
Balakrishnan as the Director of the Centre. Our Environmental Health Engineering Department has been recognized by the International
Labour Office of the United Nations, Geneva as a collaborating centre of the International Occupational Safety and Health Information Centre (CIS) Network.
