Postgraduate Courses:
- M.Sc. Human Genetics
Opportunities to pursue the special area of Human Genetics is sought by many avid and
ambitious students as they are aware of the great future that is in store for them. The
Masters programme in Human Genetics has attracted students of high calibre from many
parts of the country. In addition to the well structured teaching programme, they have the
advantage of hands-on experience in utilising the state of the art diagnostic equipment in
the field of genetics. The institution has already created a core group of committed
geneticists who contribute to research in cytogenetic and connected fields.
- M.Sc. Biotechnology
Realizing the potential role of Biotechnology, this college was initiated in 1999 and offers
a two year postgraduate programme in Medical Biotechnology and Ph.D. in which students
receive practical training and are made to conduct guided student seminars and do
dissertation work. This college is dedicated to research work in every aspect of medicine,
from advanced technology to herbology.
- M.Sc. Bioinformatics
Bioinformatics is one of the major growth areas in medicine and technology. It has
tremendous potential to leave its impact on the everyday lives of people from genetically
engineered food to drug discovery. It is in the limelight of multifarious drug trials also.
The multidisciplinary nature of the Master’s Program in Bioinformatics means that it is
open to motivated candidates with appropriate qualification in science subjects. For the
student who thrills at being on the cutting edge of science, with the skills to excel in two
very different worlds, bio-informatics can be exciting and rewarding career.
- M.Sc. Medicinal Chemistry
Medicinal chemistry is a scientific discipline involving the identification, synthesis and
development of new drugs suitable for therapeutic use. It also includes the study of
existing drugs, their biological properties, and their quantitative structure-activity relationships
(QSAR). Under the new WTO patent regime, Pharmaceutical companies India and elsewhere
are expenanding their R & D activities and therefore need well trained medicinal chemists.
The course is strucutured keeping the needs of the drug industry in mind. B.Sc. Chemistry
(with organic chemistry) and B.Pharm graduates who undergo this course can look forward
to an assured bright future. |

- B.Sc. Biomedical Sciences
Sri Ramachandra University offers a four year B.Sc. Biomedical Sciences course from this
academic year 2007-08 with an option of opting one of the three major specializations in
the fourth year of the programme on Human Genetics, Biotechnology and Bioinformatics.
This B.Sc. Biomedical Sciences program, which is one of its kinds in the country, has
been meticulously designed keeping in mind the importance of imparting complete education
with emphasis towards understanding the fundamentals of basic sciences and medical
sciences, which provides a strong foundation for higher studies and professional careers.
The curriculum is strongly multi-disciplinary and will sensitize students to the latest
developments in the field of Biomedical Sciences like Genomics, Proteomics, Applied
Biotechnology, Antibody Engineering, Medical Genetics, Medical Transcription, and Cancer
Biology. The curriculum also emphasizes basic chemical, physical, mathematical sciences,
computer applications and management principles. The program aims at producing highly
trained and skilled biomedical scientists who have flexible career opportunities and can
make valuable contributions in the filed of biomedical research. Biomedical science is a
continually changing, dynamic profession with long term career prospects including
management, research, education and specialized laboratory work. This degree will open
doors to higher studies (Master’s and Doctoral program) and academic staff positions at
leading universities and research institutes in India and the across the globe. |
