Diploma in Family Health (DFH) - Faculty of Distance Education

Dear Colleague:
Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (Deemed University) is pleased to welcome you to partake in a novel distance education program leading to a diploma in family health. This course is designed particularly with the busy practitioner like you in mind. If you are a general practitioner and are keenly interested in pursuing post graduated education but feel that you do not have the time to devote to a full time P.G course- this might be the course that you are looking for. By spending a few hours every week, you work towards getting a postgraduate diploma, and also keep abreast of advances that affect every day practice.

Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute (Deemed University) is uniquely placed to provide just the right course for the practicing physician. Our vast faculty are not just academicians and teachers - they are engaged in routine day to day practice of medicine. The course material that you will get contains informations tested in the front-line and tailored to practice situations. In addition, the information will be reviewed by many of your peers for relevance to practice before it reaches your table. The editors have developed a standard, recognizable format of problem oriented approaches, with catchy algorithms, a handy pharmacopoeia, sections like cannot miss diagnosis etc,

In addition, this course bears the Sri Ramachandra seal of commitment to excellence, a commitment backed by a vast resource of speciality services, consultations and learning resources that become only a phone call away to participants in this course. Please take a few minutes to go through this brochure and feel free to contact me for any additional information. I am looking forward to interacting closely with you.
Sincerely

FACT FILE
HOW IS THIS COURSE RELEVANT TO ME?
The course is designed for the practicing physician. It is designed and written by academic faculty who themselves are practitioners - therefore combining the best of both worlds. As an added safeguard, each course mailer is checked for relevance to family practice by frontline medical practitioners.
WHAT IS THE DURATION OF THE COURSE?
Two years. You may choose to extend the completion of your course to suit your practice and time constraints.
WHAT P.G. DIPLOMA?
After completion of requirements the candidate may take an examination and pass after which a Diploma in Family Health is awarded by the Deemed University. This diploma does not come under the purview of the Medical Council of India.
SO WHAT DOES THIS COURSE TEACH ME?
The course is built on the concept of problem-oriented learning-a tested and effective means of continuing medical learning. Real life practice problems have been identified by practitioners who are sitting members of our board of studies. The content is tailored to meet the needs of the community and therefore what you learn is what you can directly apply to practice. This course is aimed to extend the scope of practice to wider range of family health.
HOW DOES THE INFORMATION REACH ME?
Mailers are sent every month containing the learning material. A mailer sent periodically contains self-assessment questions that have to be mailed back. Upon receipt of the self-assessment, we mail you a critique, providing a discussion of your answers and comparative performance vis a vis your colleagues so that you can assess your self. In future you may also be able to do this via the world wide web.

ARE THERE CONTACT COURSES?
Yes. You are required to take at least one contact course each year. These contact courses will be aimed at providing you certain practical skills (for instance cardiopulmonary resuscitation) and also reiterate concepts.

I would like to spend some time gaining experience in my area of special interest: Short-term electives can be scheduled in almost any clinical discipline at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute subject to availability. Accommodation can be arranged at Sri Ramachandra Medical College during the electives.

WHAT OTHER SUPPORT CAN I EXPECT?
Faculty and experts in every speciality are available to provide free 24 hours consultation services to the participants in the course. Thus help for difficult patients in your practice is only a fax or phone call away. Any time that you may be in Chennai - you can use the Harvard Learning Centre at Sri Ramachandra Medical College and Research Institute - a state of the art facility with books, journals and net based resources. Priority and discounted registration are provided for Sri Ramachandra Medical College sponsored CME programs.
